Simply Decked Out

By Kelli Ellis

Celebuzz – November Feature

Is it just me or do the Holidays seem inconveniently upon us this year? We have a new President, a new government body, an E-ticket stock market (1970‘s Disneyland reference) and crappy credit … face it, the holidays look like the Olsen twins from here… yep, super slim.

However, I, Kelli Ellis am here to turn your frown upside down.  Lets focus on holiday happy thoughts. If you are like me, Thanksgiving is your favorite holiday.  Nothing pagan about it, we simply give thanks to whatever Gods you see fit, for your family and friends. Period.  We all love the annual movies highlighting the true meaning of Christmas. The tear-filled flicks give us the ultimate hope that humanity is not lost and we truly understand giving and gratitude.  This year, regardless of your income, the décor is focused on simplicity.  Let’s get back to basics. (As if you haven’t heard enough about “grassroots” and “main street” enough!)

When we talk about your décor must-haves this season, think environment, think cost-efficient and think reusable. For many years the Ellis Family has erected the pre-lit, sparkling, 3,000 hour, no heat bulbs, 8 foot Douglas Fir, Pro-Shape Christmas tree.  At this point, over the past 6 years, we have saved $737.83.(um, give or take a buck) I’ve slept all 12 days and nights of Christmas knowing my home was safe from the combustible decorative kindling most people have displayed in their homes.  And best of all, it’s the same beautiful green year after year, complete with all it’s needles intact!

My next fav Christmas décor must is the Pillar Candle Light by Restoration Hardware.  These little beauties look just like candles, warm glow and all, but low voltage, no drip, no smoke and no burn. Battery powered, they can be placed remotely or purchased in strings for a low-voltage option.  No doubt, you’ll want the ambiance all year round.  Besides who doesn’t look good in candle light?

No matter what coast your are from, the look and smell of pine equals the holidays.  Since we are going green and buying the forever-green fold up tree, we can easily add a bold pine statement with mini potted pine trees as center pieces. Once the holidays have passed, take them outside and plant them to celebrate the new year. Maybe 2009, will be truly be the year we go green and make some green!

Stay tuned… I am writing for Cosmopolitan Magazine as well!!
